Board of Building Appeals
The City of Peru Board of Building Appeals is made up of five members appointed by the Board of Public Works and Safety. This Board is the Hearing Authority for matters dealing with unsafe buildings within the City of Peru.
This Board of Building Appeals meets as necessary. Dates and times of these meetings are published in the newspaper in compliance with Indiana's Open Door Laws.
§ 152.25 BOARD OF APPEALS.
(A) There is hereby created a Board of Housing Appeals. The Board of Public Works and Safety shall provide for the organization and maintenance of a Board of Housing Appeals. The Board of Housing Appeals shall consist of five members to be appointed by the Board of Public Works and Safety.
(B) Terms of office. The members shall be appointed for a period of three years, except that, of the five members, the first two appointed shall be appointed for a term of one year; the next two shall be appointed for terms of two years; and the last appointment for a term of three years. Of the appointed members, one shall be knowledgeable in real estate affairs, one shall be knowledgeable in the construction business, and three of the public-at-large.
(C) Vacancy of Board. In the event of a vacancy, the Board of Public Works and Safety shall appoint a new member within 30 days, with the same or like qualification, and who shall serve the balance of the unexpired term of the term vacated.
(D) Rules and regulations. The Board of Housing Appeals may provide for rules and regulations to control their operation.

This Board shall, be the Hearing Authority under the authority of IC 36-7-9-2. The HEARING AUTHORITY shall perform those functions specified by state statute.
